PATRIOTS:(also known as Revolutionaries, Continentals, Rebels, or American Whigs) were those colonists of the Thirteen Colonies who rejected British rule during the American Revolution and declared the United States of America as an independent nation in July 1776. About 45% of White Male Population

LOYALISTS: American colonists who stayed loyal to the British Crown during the American Revolutionary War, often called Tories, Royalists, or King's Men at the time. They were opposed by the Patriots, who supported the revolution. About 20% of the White Male Population (Wikipedia)

About 35 % tried to remain neutral

EX. The French and Native Americans were partners in the fur trade along the St. Lawrence River in what is now Canada allowing them to keep their traditions and creating mutual dependency. This was during the 16th century. This is important to colonization because it shows that Native Americans could be treated as partners and be part of the community. Accepting diversity is part of the American Dream
